Welcome to the Murray Ditch Company
The Murray Ditch Company, a 501(C)(12) tax exempt organization, strives to ensure efficient water use for its owners and members from the diverted water channel located on the South Arkansas river in Poncha Springs, Colorado. Serving 67 owners and members, as well as 440 acres of mixed use agricultural and livestock land, the Murray Ditch Company: ensures the preservation and proper use of the historic 1882 acequias through the daily operation of the ditch during the annual water season; monitors the ditch for efficient water flow and use; maintains the ditch through frequent ditch cleanings, bank restoration, and fire suppression breaks by weed and willow control on the easements; and provides continued water flow during the peak heat of the summer which provides benefit to surrounding wildlife and livestock.
The headgate of the ditch is located on the South Arkansas River in Poncha Springs Colorado (Chaffee County), with the Parshall Flume and main channel running east through a conservation land easement (89 acres) up to Poncha Springs Lane. The ditch continues past this point and makes it way towards CR-120 traveling northeast, and is approximately 8 miles in total length including all of its laterals. The ditch is owned by 67 owners and members, all in Chaffee County, and services over 440 acres of mixed use agricultural and livestock land.

In February 2014 the Chaffee County Commissioners adopted a new Land Use Code which includes Article 3, “Right to Ranch”. This Article contains important information for all land-owners in rural Chaffee County regarding rights, responsibilities and obligations relating to agricultural activities and owning land in Chaffee County. It contains information about the importance of the County's agricultural operations and activities and provides a forum for dispute resolution.
